So, I set my mind to write a post about eating, I started my journey of searching on great proverbs, idioms, or sayings about eating.
The first one I found is:

如果我不在家里,那我一定在咖啡店里,如果我不在咖啡店里那我一定在去咖啡店的路上.
rúguǒ Wǒ bù zài jiālǐ ,nà Wǒ yīdìng zài kāfēidiàn lǐ ,rúguǒ Wǒ bù zài kāfēidiàn lǐ nà Wǒ yīdìng zài qù kāfēidiàn de lùshang .
If I were not at home, then I must have been in the coffee shop; if I were not in the coffee shop, then I must have been on the way to the coffee shop.
Do you like this saying? I bet you do, especially if you love coffee!

We all know you are what you eat. So, if you munch potato chips daily, you will end up looking like a potato bag someday. If you skip your food everyday, then you are destined to be as tall and skinny like a street lamp light. If you want to have a good shape of body as well as good health, then you seriously need to eat a well balanced meal. Why a well balanced meal is important?

A balanced meal is essential for a healthy body, a healthy mind and a happy soul. You are what you consume; if you desire a well balanced life, you should eat like one too!

By eating well, you can maintain good health and an ideal body weight. There is no single magic food can provide you with all the essential nutrients that your body needs to be fit and function efficiently. A balanced diet should contain protein, fats, carbohydrates and fiber in the form of fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. Consume the right amounts will give you a good supply of essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Also water is always the best drink, it is pure, cheap and the healthiest!

Another key point for a good eating philosophy is to eat like a rainbow — to eat every spectrum of color of food, and to color your meal in the healthy way.

When you eat blue and purple food, such as Eggplant (especially the skin), blueberries, blackberries, prunes, plums, pomegranates, they have Anthocyanins which are antioxidants that are good for you heart healthy and may help support healthy blood pressure.

When you eat green, such as broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, Brussels sprouts,
the natural plant pigment chlorophyll colors in green fruits and vegetables are good sources of isothiocyanates, which induce enzymes in the liver that help the body removing potentially carcinogenic compounds, so they have anticancer properties.

If you go for the passionate red, you should eat tomatoes and tomato products, watermelon, pink grapefruit, and cranberries. Lycopene is the predominant pigment in reddish fruits and veggies. A carotenoid, lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that can reduce your risk of certain cancers, especially prostate cancer, and offer you the protection against heart attacks.

Thus, choose as many colors you can is a proved way to start your healthy meal, it can also offer you the joy of eating and give you eye benefit too.

Due to the learning purpose of this website, it is required to offer you some Chinese proverbs, sayings or idioms about eating. Hope you don’t mind, even if you are not interested in learning Chinese now.

Translated by Shu

The Orphan of Asia (亞細亞的孤兒) is a novel by Wu Zhouliu (吳濁流). The book reflects Taiwan’s wandering-orphan status through time not only in its political content, but also in its publishing history.

The book was written in the late Japanese colonial period (1895-1945); at the time, the controls over speech and writing were pretty strict, so, the novel had to be clandestinely penned, and it was not possible to publish the book. After the Pacific War, Taiwan was governed under the Chinese Nationalist (KMT) immigrants, Mandarin Chinese became the national language, and the novel which was written in Japanese was again facing unpublishable fate. Later, the book was translated into Chinese. Describing Taiwan’s international status and the feelings of Taiwanese people through the metaphor of an orphan abandoned by its parents, the book evoked a tremendous response from readers. Its English translation was made possible in 2005.

Quotes of orphan:

“Do not let Sunday be taken from you If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan.”
Albert Schweitzer quotes

“We call that person who has lost his father, an orphan; and a widower that man who has lost his wife. But that man who has known the immense unhappiness of losing a friend, by what name do we call him? Here every language is silent and holds its peace in impotence”
Joseph Roux quotes

“Poetry is an orphan of silence. The words never quite equal the experience behind them.”
Charles Simic quotes

“He reminds me of the man who murdered both his parents, and then when sentence was about to be pronounced pleaded for mercy on the grounds that he was an orphan”
Abraham Lincoln quotes

“Marry an orphan: you’ll never have to spend boring holidays with the in-laws (at most an occasional visit to the cemetery)”
George Carlin quotes

“These concerns (for orphan children in India and elsewhere in the world) are very good, but often these same people are not concerned with the millions that are killed by the deliberate decision of their own mothers. And this is what is the greatest destroyer of peace today, Abortion…For the pregnant women who don’t want their children, give them to me.”
Mother Teresa of Calcutta quotes

“Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan.”
John Fitzgerald Kennedy quotes
