Qiao1 Qiao5 (knock, knock 敲 敲) men1 (door 门), zhao1 dai4 (treat 招待) huo4 (or 或, you can also use — huo4 zhe5  或者 or hai2 shi4 还是, all of those mean or) dao3 dan4 (trick 捣蛋, you can say zuo4 guai4 作怪). Dao3 dan4 the original meaning means mixing eggs. You can imagine that it is possible that it would make a big mess, so later, it’s meaning got extended to do something naughty. Zuo4 quai4 mean doing weird things. Guai4 means strange, for example guai4 shou4 怪兽 means monster, guai4 wu4 怪物 mean strange creature, and guai4 pi4 怪癖 mean strange habits. Guai4 pi4 can be like someone has a strange habit like chewing the hair, or likes to smell something rotten, or goes to the dumps to pick up trash from the dumpsters.
