This world famous folksong — 卡布里島 ( Ka bu li dao The Isle of Capri ) comes from Capri of course 🙂 Capri is one of the top places to visit in Italy. It is not as popular as Rome, Milan, but its beauty is no less than Naples or Venice or even more stunning in a serene way.

Capri is situated off the Amalfi coast in Campania, Italy. The sea side beautiful scenery and balmy climate makes Capri a world wide famous resort since the time of Roman Republic.

The etymology of the name Capri is unclear. Some argue it came from Ancient Greeks (Ancient Greek kapros meaning “wild boar”), for Greeks were the first recorded colonists to populate the island, and fossils of wild boars have been discovered there. Some people think it got its origin from Latin capreae which means “goats,” one reason behind this is the Romans called Capri “goat island”. There is also another theory about where the name Capri derives from: from an Etruscan word capra which stands for “burial place.”

In the 19th century, Capri became a popular resort for European artists, writers and other celebrities. The book Entdeckung der blauen Grotte auf der Insel Capri, ‘Discovery of the Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri’, by the German painter and writer August Kopisch, was a fascination of Europe at that time. In the book he describes his 1826 adventure on the Isle of Capri and his discovery of the Blue Grotto. It is a famous sea cave on the coast of the island of Capri. Capri’s Blue Grotto is well known in the world for its intense blue hues of its underwater cavity; it creates a magical blue reflection that illuminates the cave.

You might want to know that capri pants were introduced to the world by European fashion designer Sonja de Lennart in 1948. The pants’ name comes from the Isle of Capri. It said that American actress Grace Kelly was among the first movie stars who wore capri pants while touring that azure isle.
